Event NameMobile Workshop: Waukee and Urbandale Investments Position Communities for Success
Description

As one of Iowa’s fastest growing communities, Waukee has made a variety of infrastructure and quality of life investments that have fostered development while maintaining its hometown feel. Join this mobile workshop to get a close look at Triumph Park, which was built in partnership with the local school district and features a youth sports complex, miracle league field, EPIC playground and fishing pier, with accessibility being a focus throughout. The tour will then visit the Kettlestone project and Grand Prairie Parkway Corridor that is home to a host of commercial and residential developments; see the city’s road and utility infrastructure improvements while also hearing how city staff helped identify branding for the area and what is planned for the future.

Next door, Urbandale has also grown steadily over the last several decades and has made strategic investments to support its residents. City leaders have focused on quality of life projects in its parks and public spaces that have enhanced existing amenities and added new opportunities. Attendees will get a chance to visit Walker Johnston Park in Urbandale, long a community favorite in the heart of the city that has recently installed a new access point on Walnut Creek to give residents better ability to enjoy the water and connect to water trails throughout the Des Moines Metro. The tour will also visit the city’s Art Park that is adjacent to City Hall and features more than 30 sculptures, with selections incorporating input from citizens.
