City Clerk Resources

City Clerk Resources

By state law, every city council must appoint a city clerk in order to fulfill duties such as publishing meeting minutes, completing budget forms, managing city finances, responding to citizen needs and a host of other items. Recognizing the important job city clerks perform, the League is providing this separate resource area for city clerks.

In addition, the Iowa Municipal Finance Officer Association (IMFOA) is an organization that helps members gain the knowledge and ability to accomplish their tasks as a municipal finance officer. There are several benefits to belonging to IMFOA, including member rates for IMFOA workshops and the chance to sign up for the IMFOA list service, ClerkNet.

For over 40 years the Municipal Professionals Institute (MPI) has provided training specifically targeting city clerks, deputies, finance officers, and other city staff in Iowa. This valuable training is conducted in three sessions. Winter and Fall sessions are held virtually every February and October and the Summer session is held in Ames each July. MPI exists to provide practical applications for municipal positions as well as provide credits that can be used towards various certification programs.
