Police Challenges to Address Mental Health

Law enforcement faces multiple challenges when it comes to dealing with individuals who are in crisis or suffering from mental illness. The evolution is underway to provide training that includes de-escalation techniques and use of force options. We must also look to community mental health providers for partnerships in order to provide the proper care for individuals. Special units have been developed within police departments to help keep people safe and make our communities better places to live for all.
