
NLC City Summit Scholarship
The Iowa League of Cities is pleased to offer a $1,500 scholarship, sponsored by Bolton & Menk, to help an elected Iowa city official attend the National League of Cities City Summit in November.

Application deadline: July 31, 2026
This scholarship is designed to support professional development and encourage Iowa city officials to continue learning, connecting and bringing new ideas back to their communities.
Scholarship Availability
Bolton & Menk will offer one $1,500 scholarship during the first year of the program. Any additional costs will be the responsibility of the city or the attendee. After the initial year, the scholarship will be reevaluated based on interest, demand and overall program effectiveness.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a current elected Iowa city official
- Be a first-time attendee of the NLC City Summit
- City is NOT a direct NLC member
- Have demonstrated a commitment to professional development by completing the following Iowa League of Cities programs:
- CEMO Award recipient
- Municipal Leadership Academy graduate
Applicants must also have attended at least one of the following:
- Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference & Exhibit
- Iowa League of Cities Budget Workshop
- Iowa League of Cities Small City Workshop
Additional Considerations
Priority may be given to applicants who:
- Serve in leadership roles with local organizations and/or the League (in addition to their city leadership service)
- Clearly explain how attending the NLC City Summit will benefit their city, their role and Iowa cities more broadly
- Commit to sharing key takeaways with their city council, staff or peers after attending
Application Review Process
A selection committee will review applications and will be evaluated based on eligibility, demonstrated commitment to professional development, and the anticipated impact of attending the NLC City Summit.
