Iowa Municipal
Attorneys Association
The Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association was formed June 30, 1960 by 30 municipal attorneys attending the annual meeting of the Iowa State Bar Association in Sioux City. According to its first president, Robert J. Spayde, city corporation counsel of Des Moines, the purpose of the association was “to keep municipal attorneys in Iowa informed of current laws affecting Iowa municipalities, to hold workshops to discuss mutual municipal legal problems, and to participate in major court cases involving general municipal laws.”
After 50 years of service the Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association continues to strive to enhance the professional development of and promote information exchange among municipal attorneys in Iowa.
2025 dues renewal and registration for the 2024 IMAA Annual Seminar and the New City Attorney Institute are open. The IMAA membership fee is $50 annually. Annual membership is from January 1 to December 31. Members must be duly admitted to practice law in Iowa.
